ok remember my post, craziest invite ever? the party was tonight. it was the usual: (nice) guest list girls, tents sheltering the invited from rain, photographers waiting for the famous to show up, and a lot of loud new yorkers. i also noticed more super tan suited men than normal.
the party was a celebration for the launch of song airlines (operated by delta). song's a low-cost airline in direct competition with jet blue. it has a channel dedicated to palm picture's programming, satellite television, games provided by nintendo and boutique snacks or meals to order. the routes aren't all that convenient yet since they specialize in the southwest and southeast but i'm looking forward to a possible NY - LA route in the future.
i met up with adam and alex; the only two other people i know that were invited. we didn't stay long. in fact, we only stayed for half an hour. i'm sure we missed a lot but hell, rubbing elbows with self important strangers isn't that entertaining anymore. the booze was flowing and i'm sure michel nischan's delish snacks were offered but i didn't hang out long enough to confirm.
the night's highlight was getting to see grace jones be herself. i think she's magnificent. she had her trademark cheekbones perfectly made up and acted as though she was performing theatre. her facial expressions and body movements were grossly exaggerated and she posed for anyone who wanted to take her picture. i wish i had a digital camera (i usually borrow one or bring my old sony camcorder to document these parties). grace jones is striking in "real life".
i also got a moment to talk to miho and yuka of cibo matto fame. it's been awhile since i last saw them and they're really sweet and nice. michel gondry directed their sugar water music video. if you haven't heard miho's new project, smokey and miho you should have a listen. especially all you bossa nova lovers. their music is lovely.
the goody bag was filled with cds and other useless items. i'm grateful to be invited to such parties but it's definitely not as fun when you can't bring a friend (or husband)! until the next party...
