Californians love their vanity plates. In Hollywood, or actually, Beverly Hills, people especially want to tell you who they are. This guy's vanity plate reads, "silverback". In the gorilla population, a silverback is an adult male and the dominant group leader. He keeps order, makes decisions and protects his posse.
Working in entertainment, I understood this vanity plate to mean, "800-pound gorilla", slang for a powerful person. The Mercedes Benz demonstrates some wealth but I guess this agent or whoever wanted to make sure we all knew he was a baller. Most of the big ballers I know, don't express themselves this way; they're way more stealth -- easier for the attack, I suppose.
