We are launching our search for the faces of “The Cool Hunters” TV show

THE COOL HUNTERS T.V series has began, the world’s first high-end trend watching television series.

THE COOL HUNTERS from around the world will air simultaneously in different continents including Asia, Europe, UK, America, Canada and Australia. Crossing live from global destinations, each episode, our stylish COOLHUNTERS will file their individual reports, delivering news on the latest trends and hot spots directly to the viewer.

Bur before we can begin we need to find our COOL HUNTERS to be presenters on the show.

Sixspace invites you to participate in the interactive multi-media installation Wrathmaster 3000© by Los Angeles artist Michael French that opens this Saturday with a reception from 6-9pm. Guest-curated by Lorraine Molina from Bank, this exhibition uses projected video game graphics, gestural interactivity, and cartoon-like sculptural elements in a piece that explores the novelty in art, consequence and inconsequence, as well as power and subordination.

APAK's charming illustrations read like snapshots of a fantastic vacation in which a pair of his and hers stand in egos travel from one fantastic locale to another, while in reality the actual journey is the one traveled by the viewer into the hyper creative psyche of this artistic duo. At the other end of the spectrum is Marci Washington who creates sparse yet equally compelling compositions are the only clues leaving the viewer to look inward in order to resolve the narrative. The best of folk art contributions are extracted in the work of Kammy Nasman the result is beautiful, tightly rendered paintings reminiscent of Rousseau but filtered through an idiosyncratic pathology all her own. Christopher Silas Neal effortlessly combines techniques that strike an unlikely balance between delicate composition and an offbeat mix of mythology, religious iconography and subjects found in a 7th graders sketch book.

February 28th 2006, Pasadena – A new chapter for GREYONE has arrived in the form of a new storefront in Pasadena. To commemorate this new venture, GREYONE has invited a select number of creative companies to display their art in edible confections. Ten cakes in the dimension of 16 x 12 will be displayed and enjoyed throughout the night¹s proceedings. Participants include: Adidas, The Hundreds, SSUR, Hysteric Glamour, 10 Deep, Crooks & Castles, Evil Monito, Dezeinswell, Diamond Supply Co., and of course GREYONE. In addition to the tasteful delights, audio ambiance will be provided by Phoreyz, Endo, and Higher. The store space will be liberally utilized with a window display showcasing a tattoo parlor. Zeke will also be presenting time lapse footage of the GREYONE store build out which will be projected on the back wall. Sound Equipment is provided courtesy of RANE/SERATO. Appetizers will be provided by Porto's Bakery. Drinks will be provided by Plethora Bars and HAN Vodka.

The event will take place on February 28th, 2006 from the time of 7pm to 12 pm PST. The location is at 15 East Holly St., Pasadena, CA 91103.

This guy looks like he could teach you a lesson or two -- I bet he's a real sweetheart and was caught off guard though...maybe even woken up from a nice nap. I think he'd make a great guard dog. Some would say this was a face only a mother could love, but we're in love!

Infoshops and a Place-based Culture of Resistance:
We live in a society where public places that people feel like they are an active part of and can use for non-economic purposes are increasingly rare. Public spaces where people can go in order to feel like a part of a community and to participate in creating a transformational culture of resistance to the dominant society are even more rare. One exception to this general scarcity of alternative public spaces is the emergence of Info-shops in urban centers across the United States - and indeed around the world. Info-shops are community spaces that facilitate access to traditionally marginalized information while providing a physical space for people to build creative projects of resistance to current forms of destruction and domination.

We focus on six infoshops in the film: the Lucy Parsons Center in Boston, Breakdown Book Collective & Community Space in Denver, Jane Doe Books in Brooklyn (RIP), the Long Haul Infoshop in Berkeley, The Back to Back Worker-run Cafe in Portland, OR, and the Wooden Shoe in Philadelphia. We decided to approach the film from a point of view interested in interrogating the importance of place and space in relation to 1.) peoples daily lives in urban areas 2.) the creation of activist movements for social change 3.) the decline of open/free public, non-commercialized space 4.) ways that privilege and oppression are manifest physically in space 5.) ways in which people participate in place-making exercises and/or resist feelings of placelessness.

Brooklyn - "Nothing Stays the Same" (02/25/06 - 03/26/06)

Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery is pleased to present the first New York solo show of Danish artist Thomas Ovlisen. The show will feature paintings and sculpture using auto-lacquer and enamel on MDF and Styrofoam.

Ovlisen's process mimics that of auto-body shops; his visual inspiration is derived mainly from weathered cars, the worn down layers of lacquer revealing the forces of nature on its utmost adversary. Beyond this, however, the paintings may be also seen as abstract landscapes. Layer after layer is applied, sanded down, and built up until a kind of emotional memory is satisfied, evoking the layers that weather and time generate on natural landscapes through the spans of geological epochs.

The sculptures grew from the paintings, but are also informed by Formes formentarius (better known as Tinder or hoof fungus,) a fungal growth living in a destructive parasitic relationship with trees. In creating the sculptures using a techniques similar to those used to make the paintings, Ovlisen is able to produce both a weathered feeling and a sense of history. They have marks that shows a lifetime of battering and disease, and whose relationship to the effects of man on a post-industrial landscape are therefore more imminent than ancillary.

Peter Stanick combines traditional photography with vector-based computer rendering, creating large scale paintings of a fantasy land inhabited by lingerie models and movie starlets. Each piece is based on a computer model rendered for the web using Flash illustration and then output digitally on canvas using UV ink. It is with this cutting edge technique that Stanick explores and often lambastes more time-tested art world pretensions.

Peter Stanick is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Osaka Museum of Art, the Carnegie museum in Pittsburgh, and the Continental Corporation.
